Shooting the USA Wrestling World Team Trials

I’ve been fortunate to meet and interview several Olympic athletes while working as a journalist, and it’s always a great opportunity.

My memorable interviews include Olympic gold-medal cyclist Kristin Armstrong and gold-medal halfpipe snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington, both while working at KTVB in Idaho.

However, last Saturday’s event was a bit different. That’s because I was fortunate enough to shoot video of several Olympic athletes in action.

I’d never done it before, until now.

Here, I’m working as a live floor camera operator at the wrestling finals.

Working as a freelance camera operator, I traveled to Madison, WI for the USA World Team Trials Challenge Tournament.

Athletes here come from all walks of life, and have a common goal: qualifying for Team USA Wrestling.

Hired on by the team at Flo Sports, I was assigned to a floor camera and covered ring-side action for three days during the qualifying event.

The champions included former Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs, who is an amazing athlete. Other standouts included women’s champion Alyssa Lampe who beat Olympic medalist and World champion Clarissa Chun during the weekend event.

Working with technical directors and a live sports production team was a new and valuable experience for me.
